Fountains Abbey Maths and Art Trip
June 15, 2011 in Art, Maths by S Bloomfield
On Wednesday 15th June 43 year 9 students went to Fountains Abbey. When we arrived we split into two groups, one for the GCSE Art students and the other for Maths.
The Art students spent their day drawing different parts of the Abbey and the visitors centre. They used different materials to draw on and experimented with drawing in pencil, pen and in colour. It was an interesting environment to start thinking about the built environment which is a topic of their GCSE Art course next year. It was a useful preparation and a great way to spend a day.
The Maths students spent their day walking around the entire grounds answering different questions from counting steps, to estimating heights and using knowledge they have been taught in lessons to see the lakes and Abbey in a different way. They worked together in teams and had a brilliant day.
We all enjoyed the massive ice-creams we bought whilst we were there.
Thank you for the Art and Maths department for organising this trip for us.
